2019 Integrated Sustainable Development Report
The new edition of the OTE Group’s Sustainable Development Report sets out, for the first time, the total ‘value’ the Group generates for the country and its citizens, presenting important financial and non-financial data for its activities.

t is really mportant for us to see Greek companies that are leaders in their sector to enhance transparency on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues, using international best practices and tools such as the Athens Stock Exchange’s Guide to Publication of ESG Data,” said the Chief Executive Officer of Athens Exchange Group, Socrates Lazaridis, stressing that “
incorporation of sustainable development into a company’s strategy improves its ability to generate long-term value for shareholders and society, strengthening credibility and also ensuring the smooth functioning of the Greek capital market and economy.”

In the context of its Sustainable Development strategy, the OTE Group is investing in the networks and services of the future and by creating advanced digital tools helps citizens, enterprises and the state to grow. At the same time, we are taking initiatives to support society and vulnerable social groups and to develop the digital skills of citizens and our people. In 2019 the Group’s social contribution was worth €3.6 million, with over 1.5 million beneficiaries. Environmental protection has a central place in the Group’s Sustainable Development Strategy, with COSMOTE having set new ambitious targets for responding to climate change and gradually eliminating single-use plastics.
During the recent pandemic crisis, the Group’s total contribution – covering its subscribers increased digital needs and supporting the national health system and the state – came to over €12 million.
Through its actions, the OTE Group consistently contributes to achievement of the
United Nations Sustainable Development goals for a better tomorrow.

Responsible Entrepreneurship
The OTE Group has adopted the Code of Human Rights and Social Principles, acknowledging its responsibility for respecting all internationally recognised human rights. Similarly, the Group’s supply chain is committed to complying with the principles of Sustainable Development through the code of ethics for vendors. 90% of the Group’s supplies come from domestic vendors.
Employees
The OTE Group provides a safe and creative work environment for its people, encouraging teamwork, innovation, flexibility and a growth mindset. In 2019, the Group participated for the first time in the Bloomberg Gender Equality Index for equality and diversity in the workplace. Currently, over 30% of positions of responsibility at the Group are filled by women.
Customers
With a plan to invest €2 billion in Greece over the course of four years, the OTE Group is creating the new digital society, building next-generation networks and services that make citizens’ everyday lives easier and help the state and enterprises to develop. The Group has the largest fiber-optic network in Greece, having installed over 75% of the country's FTTH lines, and it is preparing intensively to implement the 5G network.
In 2019, the Group participated in 37 research programs – co-funded by the European Commission – for development of new innovative services and applications.
Society
Through its educational initiatives in STEM subjects, as well as for development of older people’s digital skills, the OTE Group is helping more and more people gain access to the potential of digital technology. During the past 6 years, over 18,500 pupils have taken part in educational robotics competitions, and over 12,000 older people have improved their digital skills.
Climate and Environment
Recognising that climate change is a global issue with major implications for all economic activities and human life, the OTE Group has set new ambitious goals as part of its response: 100% use of renewable energy sources (RES) for electricity consumption by 2021, 90% reduction in direct and indirect CO2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, 25% reduction in other indirect CO2 emissions per customer by 2030.
