- The street paper “Shedia” has appealed for support as it temporarily suspends operation due to the new lockdown
- Through support & solidarity we can create a better world for all
The people behind the Greek street paper “Shedia” are in need of support, as, due to the new lockdown, they are temporarily suspending operation and withdrawing their team of vendors from the streets of Athens and Thessaloniki.
Those who wish to contribute to the sustainability of the street paper and support the vendors of Shedia, many of whom are unemployed or even homeless and are struggling during this difficult time, can, among other things:
- Purchase the November issue online and receive an electronic copy.
- Offer the magazine food vouchers, which will be distributed to the vendors.
- Sign up to be contacted by phone by Shedia's people, who are in need of companionship because of the lockdown.
The needs of Shedia's people and ways in which we can help can be found in detail here.
In response to Shedia’s appeal for renewed support in this second lockdown, COSMOTE is buying 250 November issues, which will be distributed to its employees, and is offering telecommunication packages which include free talk time, SMS and GB for all Shedia vendors, so that they can stay in contact in these difficult times. Furthermore, it is providing €3,000 in vouchers to the magazine team for supermarket purchases. The company’s team of volunteers has already taken action to provide communication over the phone and companionship to the people behind the magazine.
The Shedia street paper, which has been in circulation in Greece since 2013, is sold at several locations in Athens and Thessaloniki by accredited vendors who belong to vulnerable social groups. One of the magazine’s points of sale is actually the Administrative Headquarters of the OTE Group in Maroussi.
