- Entertaining activities and educational programmes for everyone, online, in celebration of International Museum Day on May 18th and World Telecommunications Day on May 17th. Reservations at www.otegroupmuseum.gr
OTE Group Telecommunications Museum is planning digital activities and online educational programmes for children and families to celebrate International Museum Day on May 18th. All of the Museum’s activities this year are inspired by the theme of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) titled “Museums for Equality: Diversity and Inclusion”.
Under the slogan #StayConnected,#StayCurious, the Telecommunications Museum, which has suspended scheduled educational programmes and tours on its premises, in accordance with the state’s instructions, continues to support learning, recreation and creativity, with the help of technology.
In celebration of International Museum Day (May18th) and World Telecommunications Day (May 17th), the Telecommunications Museum is planning a series of specially designed activities scheduled from Saturday 16th until Monday 18th May. These activities include:
- the digital art workshop “Dials of the word connect,” where children of all ages and adults learn about the telephone devices in Museum’s collection and are asked to create their own telephone dials. The workshop will be held LIVE at 12.00 on Sunday, May 17th, and 18.00 on Monday, May 18th (the workshop lasts 45 min).
- the musical digital workshop “Imagination creates reality,” for children 6 to 10 years old and adults, where, guided by musicians and educators, participants learn about the ways people used to send messages (beacons, messengers, Morse code) and create an original musical ensemble using simple household objects such as spoons and saucepans. The workshop will be held LIVE at 11.00 on Sunday May 17th and 17.00 on Monday May 18th (the workshop lasts 30 min).
- the digital game “The telephone through digital puzzles & cartoons,” for children 6 and up. Five different digital puzzles showing cartoons and inspired by Museum’s collections await the digital visitors to put together the puzzles and find out which of museum exhibits each cartoon is about. If you’d like to play, starting on May 16th you can download the app from the Museum’s website.
Participation in the LIVE art and music workshops will take place via a digital platform and is free of charge. You can also participate in these workshops on another day/time by downloading an app from Museum’s site. Reservations for all LIVE activities can be made only online, on the Museum’s
site, where you’ll find detailed information on how to participate.
Until the Telecommunications Museum reopens to the public, children and families can browse selections from the permanent Exhibition
online, participate in the digital programs and learn the story of telecommunications. Among other things, they can meet Samuel Morse and his invention or take a ride on the cable laying ship "Thalis the Milesian", via Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) applications. They can also discover the analog telephone exchanges and the first telephone booth of the ‘30s.
