See where you can “travel”
Discover both the great monuments of the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum,
walk inside them, and learn everything about.
The Sanctuary
of Artemis
Brauronia

This is the place where the goddess Artemis, the goddess of hunting, wildlife and protector of children, was worshiped. There it lay a 3-meter-high bronze statue of the Trojan Horse.

The Odeon
of Herodes
Atticus

The Herodeon, a Conservatory in Roman times, was the largest conservatory built until 169 AD and, like all other conservatories, it was roofed. It was erected by Herodes, the wealthy Athenian orator and sophist, in honor of his wife, Regilla.

The Parthenon

The Parthenon is a symbol of architectural and artistic perfection. Now you can enjoy it as it was 2,500 years ago.

Museum

The Acropolis museum is one of the most famous museums in the world. With the COSMOTE CHRONOS App you can admire the southern side of the Holly Rock as seen from the 2nd floor of the Museum, as well as a number of exhibits on the 3rd floor of the Museum.

History unfolds before your eyes
wherever you are
I am in the Acropolis.
If you are on the Holy Rock of the Acropolis, you can admire the monuments in the exact place they were in ancient times. This really takes off the experience with the App. You simply follow the map and scan the sign of the monument you want to view, following the instructions. Then, it comes alive before you, as it was in its heyday.
I am elsewhere.
If you are anywhere else, at home, at school, in Greece or even abroad, you can view the monuments come to life in front of you. You can also enjoy them even in their actual dimensions, browse their interior and learn historical information about them.

FAQs
What is the COSMOTE CHRONOS app?

The COSMOTE CHRONOS application is a one-of-a-kind free mobile application for smartphones and tablets designed for the archaeological site of the Acropolis of Athens.

For the first time, state-of-the-art technologies such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) are used to bring scientifically documented digital representations of selected Greek monuments as they were in classical antiquity and Roman times to mobile devices. With artificial intelligence (AI) and the unique capabilities of the 5G network, exploring the archaeological site of the Acropolis of Athens and learning complex information becomes “child’s play”, enjoyable and informative for all ages!

You can download the application for free from Google Play and Apple App Store.

It works with Android and iOS, on most 4G mobile devices manufactured after 2018, on all 5G devices, and on the networks of all mobile providers in Greece and abroad as well as on Wi-Fi.

What does the COSMOTE CHRONOS app offer?

The COSMOTE CHRONOS application gives you the opportunity to navigate through scientifically documented, 3D digital representations of specific monuments on the rock of the Acropolis of Athens as they were in ancient times, whether you are on the rock of the Acropolis or anywhere else, at home, at school, in the park, anywhere in Greece or the rest of the world.

You can tour the Parthenon, the Sanctuary of Artemis Brauronia, the Chalkotheke, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and selected exhibits/views from the Acropolis Museum at , the Museum’s 2nd floor, an AR representation of the ancient Acropolis’ south side as seen from the terrace of the Acropolis Museum restaurant and 3rd floors exhibits.

The application also offers self-guided or interactive audio tours of the monuments, either automatically or through a real-time Q&A conversation with Clio, the first-ever digital tour guide of an archaeological site.

Why did COSMOTE create the COSMOTE CHRONOS app?

At COSMOTE, we believe that addressing social challenges with the help of technology improves people's lives. For this reason, we develop innovative and cutting-edge technologies and support their mass penetration.

One of the challenges is the sharing of the Greece’s cultural heritage, essential to ensuring its future and enhancing social cohesion. In this context, combining the unique characteristics of 5G networks with innovative AR, VR and AI technologies enables tools that promote and disseminate the Greek culture.

In addition, digital inclusion is a social challenge we face as rapid technological developments pose the risk of many of our fellow citizens being “left behind”. Digitalisation of important monuments such as the rock of the Acropolis offers an unparalleled opportunity to highlight the tangible benefits of technological innovation for all and helps us address the challenge of increasing digital inclusion.

How do I download the COSMOTE CHRONOS app?
The COSMOTE CHRONOS application is available to download for free from Google Play and the Apple App Store. Given the stores’ policies, the application is only available for download to users with devices that support augmented reality (AR) technologies.

What are AR/VR/AI/5G technologies?

Augmented reality (AR): Augmented reality adds digital content to what we see around us in the real world. Thus, it enriches the real world with useful information. In the COSMOTE CHRONOS application, AR technology makes it possible to display the recreated monuments as they were in the ancient world, whether we are at the archaeological site on the Acropolis of Athens or anywhere else in the world.

Virtual reality (VR): Virtual reality is the simulation of an environment via technology. For example, we can navigate through the monuments as they are now, using Virtual Reality technology in the COSMOTE CHRONOS application.

Artificial intelligence (AI): Artificial intelligence enables a machine to replicate the cognitive functions of a human such as learning, conversing, planning and being creative.

AI enables machines to 'understand' their environment, solving problems efficiently and acting towards a specific goal. One of the applications of AI is supporting digital assistants or avatars with which the user can communicate as if with a real person. For example, in the COSMOTE CHRONOS application, Clio understands the questions we ask orally or in written format and answers the questions accurately, even when the questions are phrased in different ways.

5G Network: 5G is the 5th generation of mobile networks. It is the fastest and most reliable mobile technology developed to date, offering very high data speeds, significantly increased capacity and ultra-low latency.

The 5G Network is accessed with a device that is compatible with the 5G network infrastructure in places with 5G coverage.

How do I place a monument on a site?
  • To place the digital representations of the monuments in your space, and particularly for augmented reality (AR) to work optimally, we recommend being in a well-lit environment. Aim your camera at a large, unobstructed flat surface such as the ground, a table or the floor.

  • A green surface will appear. It is the foundation on which the digital monument will be recreated.

  • Place this surface on a table or the floor.

  • Keep your device at a distance of 1-1.5 metres (3-5 ft.) from the flat surface where you want to place the monument.

What can I do with the monument?
  • At first, the monument will appear very small.

  • Using one finger, you can rotate the monument 360o to see it from all sides.

  • Using two fingers, you can enlarge (or shrink) the monument, you can enlarge it to its natural size.

  • You can navigate the monument with your device, inside and out, changing angles and positions. Get a closer look at anything that catches your interest with your device as if it were really in front of you!

How can I ask the avatar Clio a question?
  • To ask Clio a question, press the green button with the microphone icon once and release it. (The icon turns red while the COSMOTE CHRONOS application avatar is "listening" to you.)

  • Speak close to the microphone and as clearly as possible.

  • If you are in a noisy environment, please use your headphones with integrated microphone.

Explanation of icons:
  1. Microphone: Press the microphone icon once and release to ask a question. The green icon turns red while the COSMOTE CHRONOS app avatar is "listening" to you. When you finish speaking, the icon turns green again and the avatar answers.

Why Clio, the digital assistant, is not responding to my questions?
If you ask Clio a question but do not receive an answer, please check your 5G connection. Make sure your device is connected and try again. If the problem persists, please contact customer support.
Why the monument representations are dark and difficult to discern?
Make sure the environment in which you are using AR is well lit. If you want to have lighting based on the sun's orbit, your position, and the weather conditions, press the artificial lighting button (+icon) available during the AR experience.
I'm on the rock of the Acropolis and I've scanned the monument panel, but the monument isn't showing properly. What should I do?
