Remote monitoring and management of water supply and consumption, in real time and with precision, in order to save water resources, stabilize water pressure, control water quality, detect any leaks and reduce energy consumption as well as municipal expenditure.
Installation of 214 smart meters throughout the water supply system of the municipality for the monitoring and management of water supply and consumption, in real time and with precision, via the COSMOTE NB-IoT network. Smart Water Management was based on the solution ARTEMIS-water.
The implementation was based on NB-IoT technology, as it requires a small data volume for the interconnection of devices via a mobile telephony network, drastically reducing energy consumption and costs. It is the first project of measurement of water in Greece realized by using an NB-IoT network.
The automatization of water consumption measurements and their delivery via the NB-IoT network of COSMOTE provides direct and immediate transmission of information to the central systems of the water supply company. This way, significant water resources are being saved.
At the same time, a reduction in energy consumption and municipal expenditure is achieved, allowing for the optimum deployment of the municipal resources for the benefit of citizens.
Urban populations’ increasing water needs, the existing water resources’ depletion - degradation and the adverse effects linked to climate change, render the sustainable and efficient management of the available quantities of water supplied for urban use, crucially important. Through COSMOTE’s installation of smart metres on the Monemvasia Municipality’s water supply network, we succeeded in improving the performance and reliability of the water-supply network via remote monitoring and management of water supply and consumption, in real time and with precision.
