Telecommunication Operators

Telecommunication Operators

OTE’s “Wholesale” Division provides services that, to a great extent, arise from regulatory requirements, set by the Regulatory Authority. During 2010, the Greek Telecommunication Operators market continued to grow at quite a high rate as a result of increasing demand for broadband services; thus OTE continued to play an active and seminal role in this market.
With the aim of continuously enhancing its services to the Operators, in conjunction with providing improved support to their requests, OTE successfully responds to the needs of the market through advanced 'Wholesale CRM' systems, and ensures its compliance with regulatory requirements.
Currently, 47 mobile and fixed-line telecommunications operators are active in the overall Greek telecommunications market, of which 16 are interconnected to OTE's telephone network, while 7 providers mainly operate LLU (Local Loop Unbundling) Services.
In 2010, OTE expanded and upgraded the quality of its service portfolio, implementing the following:

  • Provision of Wholesale Line Rental Services in the form of Terminal and Trunk sections and Transmission Connections, offering economies of scale and more efficiently utilising Providers' infrastructure.
  • Broader Availability of the Wholesale Line Rental Service (WLR), enabling the Providers to sub-lease the connection to the end-client and offer voice services, exclusively under their own trade name. In 2010, 73,000 subscribers have opted for fixed-rate plans through WLR, compared to 41,500 by the end of 2009.
  • Expansion and upgrading of existing data transmission services, over the Ethernet network, both at a local and national level. The points of presence (PoPs) for OTE-Ethernet Service cover 151 OTE Centres located in 30 urban areas throughout Greece. ‘OTE Ethernet' Service fully covers the needs of telecommunications operators for the rapid, flexible and secure transmission of data
  • Access provided to mobile and fixed telephony subscribers of all networks to OTE’s “11888” (directory enquiries), to its premium rate services (numbers with the 90 prefix) and to other prefix codes, in the framework of Network Interconnectivity Services.
  • Expansion and upgrading the applications of the W-CRM electronic application submission systems for LLU, Wholesale ADSL, Number Portability and Vendor Pre-Selection services, operation of new upgraded W-CRM systems for the Interconnectivity (W-CRM WIL) and WLR (Wholesale Line Rental) services, as well as development of W-CRM for Wholesale Line Rental services (W-CRM WLL, Wholesale Leased Lines)
  • Use of e-brochures and other electronic material for the promotion of services, without recourse to conventional print material, thus saving valuable resources.
  • Publication of the 19 volumes of the print Unified Telephone Directory (OTE White Pages), which covered the entire country and included the details of fixed and mobile telephony subscribers, and which was freely distributed, while at the same time also reducing the number of copies printed in order to economise on resources and on paper into 2010.
